2010 Tour a success

The A Cappella Choir returned from its 2010 Spring Tour to St. Paul/Minneapolis on Sunday April 18th.  The choir was in the Twin Cities for three and a half amazing days.  Some of the activities included the Science Museum, Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, the Landmark Center, the Sprotz Comedy Club, a workshop at St. Thomas University, a performance at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and an afternoon Twins game at the new Target Field.

Check out the Pictures tab to see a few of the great shots taken on the trip.  Thanks to all the support from teachers, parents, and community members for this trip.  We had a wonderful time and many great memories were made.

Concert Date Change!

Due to the hopeful State Tournament Run by the boys hockey team, we are changing the date of our upcoming choir concert.  The All-Choirs concert originally scheduled for Thursday March 11th, middle of state hockey tournament, will be rescheduled to Monday March 8th at 7:00pm.

We have decided to plan for this situation now, rather than wait until it is too late to get the word out.  Please spread the word, watch the news papers, and stay posted for reminders about this important date change.

A notice will be sent home next week to all families of choir students.

Concordia Choral Festival

This Friday, five students and myself will travel to Concordia College in Moorhead, MN to attend the 4th Annual Concordia College High School Choral Festival.  These students will get to watch, listen to, rehearse, and perform with The Concordia Choir, one of the top choirs in the country.  They also get the opportunity to sing under the director of Dr. Rene Clausen, one of the most well known choral conductors in the world, who is the conductor of The Concordia Choir.

The two day event takes place on the campus of Concordia College, a school known nation wide for its music department.  Four entire high school choirs are invited from various schools throughout the state.  Then an invitation is sent to all Minnesota high schools to bring up to six singers to attend the event.  This year, almost 600 high school singers will be participating in the event.

These students will participate in the mass choir which performs at the end of the Festival Concert.  This concert will also feature performances by the four invited choirs and The Concordia Choir.  During the two days festival, students will hear mini concerts by all the choirs at Concordia, take part in private and group lessons with Concordia voice faculty, socialize with the other singers, and, of course, rehearse.

The students attending this year are: Brooke Carlsen, Sarah Miettunen, Lindsay Monacelli, Hillery Frank, and Jesse Hancock.

Busy Busy Busy

The New Year brings with it a schedule of events that will provide many wonderful opportunities for the students involved in the VHS Choral Program.  Just check out the schedule to see all the concerts, festivals, workshops, fundraisers, and more.  (not to mention A Cappella’s Tour)

It all starts next week when six students along with myself will travel to Moorhead, MN for the annual Concordia College High School Choral Festival.  Then comes March, a full month with the Second Annual All-Choirs concert and the Sub-section Vocal Music Contest happening in the same week.  The month will end with a shared concert featuring A Cappella Choir and the St. Cloud State University Concert Choir as they stop in Virginia during their Midwest Tour.

Hold on!  It’s going to be a busy Winter!

Tis the Season!

It’s that time of year again!  The VHS Choirs have been working hard the past three months and are ready to share their music with the community.  The choirs will celebrate the holiday season with two concerts that will feature music from every musical period, of various genres, and sung in multiple languages.

The Junior High concert is Thursday December 10th at 7:00pm and will feature the 7th and 8th grade choirs.  The Senior High concert is Sunday December 13th at 2:30pm and features the Varsity and A Cappella Choirs.  Both concerts are free and open to the public and take place in Goodman Auditorium at VHS.

Come and show your support for these young musicians and celebrate the start of the Holiday Season with some great music.

First Annual Concert a Success

The First Annual “Voices of Virginia” concert was a great success.  Over 500 people were present for a spectacular concert featuring three outstanding choirs from Virginia.

Audience members and singers agree; it was a wonderful event where singers ranging from age 15-82 were standing side by side in song.  “This is just great.  Thank you for letting us be a part of this event” proclaimed a member of the Choralaires.  These were the feelings of everyone involved.  Choral music is very much alive in our community.  Thank you to those who came out for this concert.  Lets do it again next year!
