The Virginia High School A Cappella Choir is open to female and male singers in grades 10-12. Membership in this choir is obtained through audition only. The A Cappella Choir is designed to fulfill the needs of those students who desire a strong background in choral singing. The choir performs all styles of choral literature from the renaissance through the contemporary periods, and a high level of commitment is expected. Emphasis is placed on solo and ensemble singing.
The A Cappella Choir has traveled extensively throughout the midwest and the United States, most recently to San Francisco, CA where they spent six days touring and performing. They have performed in venues across the country from San Diego to New York City. In 2011 the choir was honored to perform at the ACDA-MN Fall Conference and participate in the ACDA-MN Composer Consortium. In 2014, they were invited to participate as a guest choir for the Concordia College High School Choral Festival. In addition to their two-three regular concerts per year, they also perform several times at community functions throughout the Iron Range, collaborate with local community and college choirs, and participate in workshops with choirs and conductors from across the region. The choir has participated in residencies with Chanticleer and the Minnesota Opera, and has shared the stage with ensembles such as The Singers-Minnesota Choral Artists and The Concordia Choir.
