This week the students are making their local legend presentations, as well as continuing their study of different types of phrases. We are also preparing our heads of the state reading test which will take place immediately after the upcoming spring recess.
STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE finally comes to the end of the trolley line this week with last analysis activities — and a peek at the famous film version of this great play.
The principal effort this week will be to conquer those pesky prepositional and appositive phrases. We have also attained the grand number of 21 in our word study and are in the last quarter of our storyhour selection TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.
We will continue and conclude individual presentations of Sherlock Holmes detective stories and begin working in diads to create local legends, such as the one we read in THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. Additionally, we will practice with sensory imagery and open up the subject of phrases as a component of sentence structure.
This week we will resume vocabulary study with list #10 and continue our prevention of “verbal abuse.” But the main literary event will be the beginning of our study of the dramatic works of Tennessee Williams. The work we will sample this year is STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE.
This week we will complete our review of pronoun usage and return to the literature anthology to read the work of those other 19th century trailblazers: women authors. Additionally, we will be in our 18th week of word study and will return to our “story hour” book, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.
