Improving Achievement For Students with Disabilities

The Virginia School District have encouraged their teachers to attend workshops that will improve student achievement on the Minnesota state tests that are required for graduation.  On November 12th and 13th , the Northeast Service Cooperative is providing a two-day workshop for Special Education Teachers with students who will take the MCA-II’s.

Day 1: of the two-day workshop will give participants an overview of research-based effective instruction, experience with the MN Content Standards, and an introduction to the Self Regulated Strategies model of instruction.

Day 2: Strand A will have participants applying the Strategies model to instruction in reading comprehension, vocabulary development and writing skills for students with disabilities.

Strand B will have participants learning research-based approaches to mathematics instruction, as well as applying the Strategies model to instruction in mathematics problem-solving.

Superintendent Search

The Virginia School Board will be selecting a Superintendent to replace the current Superintendent who will retire next summer.  There will be a public meeting to be held on Monday, November 10th, 2008 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm in the auditorium.  Please enter by doors 6,7,9, or 3.  The school board thanks you for your assistance.

Parent Portal

The parental portal is an effective way to check on your child’s academic progress on their assignments and tests.  The Virginia School District sent out a username and password to allow parents to access the system.  If you have not received or do not know what your username and password, please call the high school office at 749-5437 ext. 1915.

Parent Teacher Conference

Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 6th, from 5-8pm and Monday, November 10th from 5-8pm in the Resource Center.  If you would like to speak with me, I will be up in my classroom T320 instead of the resource center.  I encourage parents to meet with all teachers in order to have a better understanding of how their child is progressing in each class.
