Hard-edge Painting Project..
Hard-edge: a term coined in 1959. Hard-edge is used to describe a style of painting that uses straight geometric lines, rich solid color fields, a neat and tidy surface, and an arrangement of forms using balance.
This project will consist of four parts (described below)

-Your artwork critique should be 1/2-1 page in length with margins of 1″, a spacing of no more than 1.5 lines, and a font of 12pt. The artwork critique should address the items listed below.
-Describe. List the name of artist, title of work, and gallery or location of work. You should take inventory of everything you see in the work of art. Stick to the facts. Imagine that you are describing the work of art to someone over the telephone. Make note of your first impression. When you are through with the critique you might understand your first impression better, or you might change it.
-Analyze. Attempt to figure out what the artist has done to achieve certain effects on the work of art. How are the elements of art (color, shape, line, texture, space, form, value), and the principles of design (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement/rhythm, unity, variety) used in this artwork? What grabs your attention? Why do you think this happens?
-Evaluate. Make some reflections and conclusions about the artwork based on the information you have gathered above. Have your thoughts or feelings about the work of art changed since your first impression? If so, how? What changed your mind? If not, can you explain your first impression? What have you seen or learned from this work of art that you might apply to your own art work?
*3) Practice painting (copy of a famous work of ‘hard-edge’ art)~ 20 points
*4) Final painting (your own creation in the style of ‘hard-edge’ art)~ 50 points
* these items will be discussed Monday in class.
